Creative Industry Centers
Following the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and African Minister’s of Culture Conference declaration for the establishment of Cultural Industries that was held in Yaunde’, Cameroon, in 2001 the concept of Cultural/Creative Industries was adopted as one of the ways of tackling youth restiveness, unemployment and wealth creation. Consequently, the Ministry began the establishment of Cultural Industries Centres in 2008. Over the years, the Ministry has successfully establish 14 Cultural Industries Centre across the six geo-political zones of the federation they are as follows: 2 in Taraba State: Bali and Ibi respectively, 2 in Edo State: Abudu and Ihebvie, 1 in Lagos: Badagri-Iyafinin, 1 in Sokoto centre- Sokoto State, 2 in Enugu; Niyi and Orji river , 1 in Gidan Ajia-Orozo, FCT, 2 Benue State: Makurdi and Otukpo, 2 in Ogun State: Kuto and Odeda and 1 in Ondo State Olowo Palace Owo. It’s important to note having functional Cultural Industries Centres in Nigeria in general will enlighten the public on the importance's of CIC to individuals as an economic means to improve their standard of living and equally a means to promote our culture.
