Cultural Industries and Heritage (CI & H)
Following the organizational re-structure by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the Department of Cultural Industries and Heritage was carved out from the defunct Department of Culture, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture in 2013. The vision for the creation as contained in the documents made available was “to reposition Cultural Industries and Heritage as a key sector for economic growth and to re-orient the youths and women to build an orderly society where core values of hardwork, honesty, patriotism, democratic principles and ideals are upheld”.
Structure of the Department
The Department of Cultural Industries and Heritage is structured into three (3) divisions.
- Cultural Industries
- Fashion; and
- Heritage.
Functions of the Department of Cultural Industries and Heritage
- To co-ordinate the development of Cultural Industries in the Six Geo-political zones of Nigeria in order to empower people at the grassroots.
- To co-ordinate capacity building for creative art workers in the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.
- To provide working tools and equipment at the created Cultural Centres.
- To produce brochures on the various aspects of Nigeria culture covering traditional foods, cuisine, costumes, hair-do and craft institutions.
- To develop Nigeria Cultural Festivals to International Standards
- To formulate policies on the Cultural Industries and Heritage in Nigeria.
