Entertainment and Creative Economy (ECE)
The Entertainment and Creative Economy Department is the former Entertainmentand Creative Services Department and was one of the newly created Departments by the Head of Service in 2014 out of the old Department of Culture for effective administration of culture in Nigeria giving dedicated attention to theEntertainment and the Creative Sector in Nigeria. In view of the creation of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr.President to deploy the Creative Economy for economic growth, job creation, enhance foreign exchange anddirect foreign investment as well as improved global reputation, the Head of Service of the Federation approved the change of name of the Department. The following are sub-sectors of the Creative Economy: Film/TV/Radio; Music, Design; Festivals/Carnivals; Fashion/Textile; Photography; Performance Arts; Contemporary Arts; Advertising/Digital Marketing; IT, Gaming, Software Development; Publishing, Printing; Gastronomy; and Architecture, etc. The Department is charged majorly with formulating policies and promoting the Art, Entertainment and Creative Economy.
The Department is charged with the following responsibilities: Formulating policies on the Entertainment Industry; Promoting the Nigeria Entertainment and Creative Economy; Promoting the Private-Public Sector collaboration in the development of the Entertainment Industry; Providing the regulatory Framework for the Entertainment Sub-sector; Packaging the Entertainment and cultural content of both International and National Programmes; Developing and promoting cultural Festivals and Carnivals; Relating with Nollywood for advisory services; Partnering and implementing MoUs with National/Multinational Organizations (The British Council, Tony Elumelu Foundation etc) in the promotion and development of the Creative Sector in Nigeria; Overseeing the activities of the National Troupe of Nigeria and the National Theatre; and Providing a structure for the Entertainment and Creative Sector in Nigeria for proper coordination.
For effective implementation of the mandate of the Department, it is divided into three (3) Divisions:
- Festivals and Carnivals Division
- Cultural Troupes and Music Division
- Special Duties Division.
