CULTURAL INDUSTRY CENTRE, SOKOTO - SOKOTO STATE
The Sokoto Cultural Industries Centre is located at the Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau, Sokoto. The Cultural Industries Centre is one of the cultural industries established by the Ministry to; boost local production of cultural goods and services, enhance the skill of cultural workers in the areas of mass production and packaging, provide employment, boost local utilization of cultural material and assist in poverty reduction as well as contribute to national growth and development. Parts of the strategies to main stream cultural industries to national economy are training, retraining and capacity building programs to enable Nigerians to explore the opportunities abundant in the industries for the socio-economic development. It is important to note that, the centres Sokoto inclusive have being equipped with Sewing machine, Weaving machine, Designing Machine, Potter wheels, Ceiling fans and Bulbs but there is a compelling need to boost the capacity of the artists for effective utilization of the centre to achieve the objectives for which the centre (s) are established. The components of the capacity building will include using new techniques in tanning of hide and skin, processing of leather and exploring other means of utilizing the leather, review of the packaging of the finished products to meet international standard and exploration of new domestic and international markets. Furthermore, new designs and techniques have emerged in embroidery work and to meet the modern trends and have a fair share of the growing market, it is necessary to introduce the embroidery workers in Sokoto to the new trends.
